Marriage

Five

January 10, 2014
I’m surprised it’s not already January of NEXT YEAR with how fast the days fly by, so I’m counting myself lucky that it’s only 2014.  I’m slightly horrified that I said “only” 2014, and even more horrified that is already the second week of January — but I’ll take what I can get.

What is most surprising, however, isn’t the fact that I am…we are…getting older, or that, despite walking out of the building ten minutes ago, my first high school reunion looms in the near future. Instead, it is the fact that I ever got so lucky to be here in the first place. 2014. Married to my best friend. I just could never have imagined.

Five months of adventure and surreal happiness have flown by, and I can’t wait for what the next seven months and beyond hold for us.

Our fifth month of marriage saw our first Christmas as The Forts,

and was spent mostly on mountain tops, or within the lush green forests of the Cascades.

We also got to spend some time in my hometown, with the people I love, in the snow, and in New York. Moreover, because one doesn’t simply go to New York without incident (unless you pray to the parking gods, and apparently, the bridge gods now), we got to spend three hours in NYC traffic, too! I actually liked it, though I can’t say the same for Alex. 😉 Driving (even if it is at one mile per hour) on the roads you know so well, in the place you know so well, where, despite how far you go, part of your soul still still roams…it’s a comforting feeling.
There is no place in the world like where I am from.

What a fantastic month it was!

As for January, who knows what’s coming. I don’t even know what we are going to do tomorrow! I’m sure this month will consist of more hiking and adventures, maybe some camping, more HOME-COOKED MEALS (we live in the middle of a city where other options are usually more convenient, so I can’t make guarantees), maybe even some more snow…but maybe in February instead. I think I’ve had enough snow and being entirely too cold for January 😉

See you next month!
